Vyas, Kumar visit Kupwara; take stock of ongoing development works

KUPWARA, SEPTEMBER 27: Advisors to Governor, B. B. Vyas and K. Vijay Kumar, today visited the frontier district of Kupwara as part of the outreach programme to get a first-hand appraisal of ongoing developmental projects and ensure redressal of public grievances there.

The Advisors also interacted with various public delegations who apprised them about their grievances, problems and developmental requirements.

The delegations apprised the Advisors about the developmental demands related to road connectivity, water supply, power scenario, healthcare and sanitation, solid waste management, repair of street lights, completion of languishing projects, and renovation of drainage systems.

Besides, bus stand at Regipora, IT Skill Development College at Trehgam, Bangar-Gund bridge, effective water distribution network for Trehgam, Mini-Secretariat for Trehgam, Police Sub-Division for Trehgam, creation of industrial estate at Margi TangchakDardpora, Power Grid Stations at Hayatpora, Kalaroos and Kuligam, completion of Kupwara Stadium, Staff for MC Kupwara, and MRI machine for SDH Kupwara, fencing of G&B Hostel Zangli were also raised by the deputations.

A delegation of progressive farmers demanded enhancement in the number of Vermi-Compost pits, support for dairy units, and other initiatives, lift irrigation facility for Hathmulla, Dedikoot and other areas.

The Advisors gave a patient hearing to the deputations and assured time-bound action on the projected demands after holding discussions with all concerned departments.

Later, Advisors accompanied by officers of the district administration visited the dairy unit at Batergam being managed by Women Self Help Group. They appreciated the endeavor and assured all possible assistance towards strengthening women empowerment through economic self-reliance and better opportunities.

They also inspected the Sports Stadium at Galizoo and interacted with the sportspersons there. Both the Advisors directed the district administration to improve the aesthetics of the stadium. Member Parliament, Fayaz Ahmad Mir interacted with the Advisors at Galizoo and demanded better connectivity to the stadium via Lolab road through the construction of a bridge.

Advisors also inspected Pandit Colony Natnussa and playfield Natnussa where they directed the authorities to mobilize men and machinery for better sporting facilities towards youth engagement.  Advisor Vyas suggested Assistant Commissioner Development Kupwara, Yaar Ali for construction of playfields and other works of public importance under convergence mode.

Earlier, Vyas and Kumar chaired a meeting at Handwara to review the progress of various ongoing developmental projects.  District Development Commissioner Kupwara Khalid Jehangir briefed the Advisors about the status of various developmental activities being undertaken by different executing agencies in the district.

He also presented a detailed account of achievements in various sectors including health, education, agriculture etc.

The Advisors directed the officers to undertake regular field visits of far-flung areas for redress of public issues and impressed upon officers to take monthly review meeting of their departments for monitoring progress of various schemes.

They stressed for giving wide publicity and creating awareness regarding various government-sponsored development schemes. They also emphasized upon the need for exploring scope in agricultural and horticultural sectors through expert intervention by concerned departments towards ensuring better dividends to people.

The Advisors also interacted with various public delegations, representatives of various political parties, social activists, members of civil society and prominent citizens at Handwara.

During the visit, Advisors also chaired a meeting to review the arrangements put in place for the smooth and peaceful conduct of ensuing Urban Local Body elections.

They directed the district administration to take all steps to ensure the free and fair conduct of the polls.

ADDC, SSP, ASP, ACR, ACD, JDP, RO Municipal Committee Kupwara, EO Municipal Committee Kupwara, SDM Karnah and Lolab, CMO, CEO, Officers from Police and security agencies and other concerned attended the meeting.
