LMD books vendors for labelling violations

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 25: Field executives of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today booked various business vendors in Sanant Nagar and Rawalpora areas of Srinagar for selling various crockery items without proper labelling.

During the inspections, a large quantity of crockery items like Herb Mincer, baby-feeder, cookie-cutters, tissue-paper holders, glassware, napkins etc were seized by the LMD team on the spot for violation of labelling norms.

“Some products were found carrying stickers with inflated MRP. An ordinary mug was found carrying a price sticker of Rs 440. Three shopping malls were booked on spot. On most of the crockery products, the manufacturers/importers have not printed all the mandatory declarations on the label,” a statement of the LMD said.

The legal action shall be initiated against such companies/importers under Legal Metrology laws, the statement added.

Every pre-packed crockery item is supposed to carry the declaration of country of origin with MRP/Net contents/Manufacturing date/Customer care number with e-mail address.

The traders dealing in such products are directed not to offer for sale any crockery item which is without the aforesaid mandatory declarations, the LMD said.
