Srinagar, Sep 21: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference, headed by Sajad Gani Lone has decided to take part in forthcoming civic polls.

Lone, who represents Handwara as MLA and was Minister for Social Welfare, and Science and Technology in PDP-BJP coalition government, took to Twitter to announce his party’s decision.

“Will take part in the upcoming elections. But given the rules we unfortunately won’t have a common symbol,” Sajad Lone tweeted.

It is pertinent to mention that National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party have decided to stay away from the forthcoming polls. CPI(M) too has decided not to contest.

However, two national parties, Congress and BJP have decided to contest the polls. Peoples Conference is the first regional party that has decided to contest the elections.

Peoples Conference, it may be mentioned here, has two MLAs in State’s Assembly which continues to remain in suspended animation following imposition of Governor’s rule here.
