Srinagar, Sep 20: Pledging to fight every Yazidi character, a large number of Shia Muslims, from all walks of life, on Thursday carried out ninth Muharram processions in different parts of Kashmir.

The largest gathering was observed in central Kashmir’s Budgam Township where a large number of people commemorated the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS).

A huge procession was taken out from Babul Ilem Public Higher Secondary School in Budgam after Asr prayers which passed through main chowk and culminated at central Imam Bargah here.

Meanwhile, the students of Government Sheikh-ul-Alam Degree College Budgam had set up a stall to serve drinks to mourners.

Mourning gatherings were also observed in parts of Srinagar and Baramulla districts of the Valley.

A group of Shia Muslims, while talking to Kashmir Images said that every oppressed person must follow Karbala in their struggle. “Only Karbala can overpower oppression, hence it’s incumbent upon suppressed people of the world to take lessons from the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS).

Dozens of banners with messages on Karbala were erected across the streets. “Imam Hussain (AS) taught us all how to stand up and resist cruelty and the government of tyranny,” reads a banner.

Meanwhile, the followers of Imam Hussain (AS) will remember his supreme sacrifice throughout this night.

Pertinently, like other parts of the world, Ashura- the day when Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions were martyred by the army of despot Yazid, will be observed on Friday in Kashmir. The largest gathering will be held in Budgam.
