Army soldier shot dead in Kulgam
“Had come home to mourn his son’s accidental death”
Srinagar, Sep 17: Militants on Monday shot dead a Territorial Army soldier in Kulgam district of south Kashmir, police said.
The militants barged into the house of Mukhtar Ahmad Malik at Shurat in Kulgam and shot at him from a close range, a police official said.
The official said Malik, a soldier in the Territorial Army 162 Bn, died on the spot.
Reports said that Malik had come to his home to observe Fateh Khwani of his 16-year old son, who died in a road accident a few days back.
Soon after the incident, security forces launched a manhunt in Shurat and adjoining villages to nab the militants responsible for the murder.
Malik’s killing comes just two days after security forces killed five militants of Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba in Kulgam.
Reports said that Mukhtar Ahmad Malik alias Mukhtar Gola was a former Ikhwan commander.
