Srinagar, Sep 14: Regretting the damage caused to the standing crops by turbulent winds and hail storms Thursday evening, MLA Gulmarg Friday said that scores of villages in his constituency have suffered losses and the administration must come to their rescue.

In a statement here today, MLA Gulmarg Mohammad Abbas Wani said like elsewhere, scores of villages of his Gulmarg constituency suffered losses due to hails and winds   yesterday. While paddy fields were flattened at certain places, fruit orchards also suffered damages.

He said though some officials from various departments visited a few villages today to assess the damage, but people of these areas are not happy with it. People, according to Wani, say that this visit was more of a token exercise than any real damage assessment, with a huge majority in my constituency saying that they did not see any government functionaries visiting their areas.

Seeking Governor Sat Pal Malik’s personal intervention, Wani appealed his administration to seriously assess and evaluate the damage suffered by the farming community and accordingly compensate it so as to bring back cheers to the faces of battered farmers.
