“If the transport department was supposed to hike the fare, they should have at least issued a formal order in the interest of public,” they added.

Residents who fall commute on Frisal to Chitragam route said, “If the registered fare, for travelling in a sumo, for 4 kms is only 10 rupees how come the drivers charge 15 rupees. We strongly oppose this increase in fare.”

When contacted ARTO Kulgam he said, “The hike in public transport fare in Kulgam district is the decision of government which got implemented from 21 August, 2018 and this hike is not for all routes.”

“The decision was taken by Governor of the state, if the general public wants to update themselves about the latest fare hike, they should visit the state transport website,” he added.
