Police holds meeting regarding Muharram processions, congregations

Srinagar: To review the security arrangements and other preparations with regard to smooth conduct of Muharram-ul-Haram processions and congregations for the year 2018, a meeting with  representatives of various organizations was convened at Police Station Zadibal.

A statement issued by police said, the meeting was chaired by SDPO Hazratbal Rameez Rashid Bhat accompanied by SHO Police Station Zadibal Tawseef Ahmad.

Participants were assured full co-operation and support of Police from all aspects besides the route-plan of processions were discussed and elaborated. Public cooperation was solicited to abide by the route plans, so that proper security deployment is arranged. Specific emphasis were given to Traffic movement. Additional deployment of traffic Police in the area for smooth flow of traffic was also raised in the meeting and it was desired by the participants to divert the traffic on 08th, 09th,10th  and 11th Muharram via Ali Jan Road for convenience of general public and availability of Govt. transport facility upto late hours for devotees on the said dates.

The participants raised the issue of availability of essential commodities like rice, flour, sugar, kerosene oil, LPG, fresh vegetable, firewood and other essential commodities. The participants were assured that the issues will be brought to the notice of concerned authorities. Participants further requested availability of essential services during the Holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram like uninterrupted power supply, potable drinking water, availability of ambulances for round the clock and additional quota of rice and sugar. Participants requested that street lights which have got defunct should be made functional.

Participants demanded that SMC be directed to deploy additional sweepers during the Month of Muharram, so that the heaps of garbage dumped in dust bins alongside roads be cleared well on time and devotees do not have to face any problem related to cleanliness and hygiene. Matter needs to be taken up with Municipal authorities.

The participants have been assured that their demands and suggestions would be taken up with higher formations for their redressal, said the statement.

SDPO Hazratbal further requested the participants to extend their cooperation and support to police for the smooth conduct of Muharram processions and congregations, added the statement.
