Two local LeT militants killed in Handwara

Handwara:Two local militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit were killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Langate area of north Kashmir’s  Handwara late last night.

A top police official said that the state police and security forces launched a joint search operation based on “credible” inputs about the presence of militants in Galoora area of Langate.

“During the searches, the militants fired on the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed,” he said.

An official identified slain as of Lashkar-e- Toiba militant  Liyaqat Ahmad a resident of  Harwan Sopore and Furkaan, 18yr from Langate Handwara.

The gunfight began early morning as the army’s 30 RR, 92 bn CRPF, and SOG launched a cordon and search operation in Galoora area of Langate after receiving specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area, an official said

He said,  “Arms and ammunition was also recovered from the site of encounter. Search in the area is going on.”

Police has registered a case in this regard and the investigation has been initiated in the instant matter, he said.
