Clashes rock Shopian erupt during searches
Srinagar, Sep 09: Scores of youth clashed with the government forces during two separate search operations at two villages of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, Sunday.
A police official said that on Sunday afternoon government forces laid a siege around the Tekkipora and Ronipora villages following inputs about the presence of militants in these villages.
He said as soon as government forces started door-to-door searches, scores of villagers, especially youth, pelted them with stones to hamper the operations.
"The forces responded by firing teargas canisters to disperse the protesters,” he added.
The operation was underway when the reports last came in.
