“Body of minor girl of Boniyar was exhumed today. A team of doctors including experts in forensic medicine from GMC Srinagar exhumed the body for forensic analysis as part of the investigation. Certain medico-legal aspects needed more clarifications which local doctors couldn’t do,” the SSP said..

The body was later reburied in the local graveyard.

Meanwhile, a local Masjid Committee had organized a congregation which condemned the brutal rape and murder of the minor girl and demanded capital punishment to the killers.

“We demand stern action against culprits. They must be hanged for they have shamed the whole state by this heinous crime,” said writer and poet Raja Nazar Boniyari.

According to police, the victim was raped and murdered by her 14-year-old step-brother and his three friends at the instance of the girl’s step-mother in Larri Trikanjan area of Boniyar on August 23.

The victim’s decomposed body was spotted in a forest area a kilometre away from her residential house on September 02.

The police have nailed five people, including two minors, as accused in the crime. While the two minors have been sent to a juvenile home in Srinagar, the three other accused, including the girl’s step-mother and the brain behind the crime, have been sent to police remand till September 17.
