KARGIL, SEPTEMBER 05: Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali underscored the need for massive awareness among the general masses about the tourism related incentive schemes being provided by the State and Central Governments for the promotion of tourism in the State of Jammu and Kashmir besides stressed for proper advertisements of sports potential of district Kargil.

The Chairman was speaking at the concluding function of the two-day Kargil Ladakh Tourism Festival-2018 at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium, Biamathang Kargil today.

The Chairman said the main purpose of the festival is to boost the potential of tourism in district Kargil and stressed upon the concerned departments to work with utmost dedication and prepare plans for the promotion of tourism in Kargil district.

He said organizing of such events help to promote the tourism activities in the district. He asked the concerned to organize similar events in the month of June and July in the next year so that the maximum tourists can be attracted towards this region.

Praising the scenic beauty and the multi-ethnic culture of Kargil, Haji Anayat said that there is a scope to promote tourism in the district but need of the hour is to highlight water rafting and other adventure sports activities.

The two-day event featured multi-ethnic traditional music and dance performances by the folk artists of different ethnic groups of the region including Purgi, Dalti, Dardi. It also featured traditional horse polo and archery matches. Besides, the exhibition of local art and craft on various stalls, the visitors here also cherished the taste of ethnic food made available here.

A colourful cultural programme depicting the culture and traditions of Kargil was the main attraction of the event during the concluding day.

In horse Polo game, four teams included Bodh Kharbu, Sapi, Drass A and Drass B participated. Final match was played between Drass A and Drass B in which Drass A team beat Drass B by 4-0 goals.

Later, the Chairman distributed cash awards among the participating teams including cultural troops.

Earlier, the Assistant Director Tourism, Aga Toha presented vote of thanks on the occasion and highlighted the importance of the festival.

Deputy Director Tourism, Wasim Raja, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kargil, Sonam Chasjore, Assistant Director Information Abdul Ahad Bhat, senior officers of district administration, a good number of foreigners as well as local people participated in the concluding function.
