“As the building was very old with wooden roof and ceiling, the fire engulfed it in jiffy. Till the fire tenders from Uri and Baramulla reached the spot to douse the fire a major portion of the building was destroyed in the blaze,” said an eyewitness Ali Mohammad.

The fire-tenders from Baramulla and Uri couldn’t reach quickly; however, the fire was controlled only after the fire service men started firefighting operation to douse the flames.

When contacted Executive Engineer Nazir Ahmed Malik, said, “Our Sub-Division office was gutted in the fire. Though office records and furniture got damaged but all the record is computerized now, and we have its back up as well.”

He said the cause of the inferno is being investigated. Meanwhile, police has registered a case in this regard and investigation is going on.
