Hectic efforts on to form next Hill Council in Kargil

Kargil: After throwing a fractured verdict in the elections to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) – Kargil brisk mobilisation has started among the political parties to woo the members to form the next council.

Securing 10 out of total 26 seats, National Conference (NC) has emerged single largest party followed by Indian National Congress (INC), Independents with five, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) winning two and one seats respectively.

Both NC and INC are holding meetings with their respective winning councillors while keeping all their options open. Three independent councilllors have won with the support of NC and two others with INC backing.

The Hill Council has total strength of 30 councillors while 26 are elected by the electorate of the district and remaining four are being nominated by the government.
