In the Case No. W.P. (C) No. 722/2014 “WE THE CITIZENS” Vs. UNION OF INDIA and ANR and ANR was listed today in Chief Justice Court at item No. 18. Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami representing CPI (M) Jammu and Kashmir State Committee had already filed Intervention Application numbered as IA 106447/2018.

Attorney General K.K Venugopal and Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Tushar Mehta sought adjournment in the matter stating the reason of upcoming elections to the local bodies. The petitioners opposed adjournment, but in vain.

Stating that there was no urgency to hear on the repeal of a provision that came into existence in 1954, the three judge bench headed by the Chief Justice adjourned the case to second week of January, 2019.
