Article 35A row: Protest in Budgam

Budgam, Aug 31: The adjournment of hearing on Article 35A by the Supreme Court on Friday could not stop people here from protesting.

After Friday congregational prayers, people in large numbers came out of central Imam Bargah to protest against ‘planned’ tinkering or abrogation of Article 35A.

While chanting pro-freedom and pro-Article 35A slogans, protesters demanded Supreme Court to cancel the petitions challenging constitutional validity of 35A.

Demonstrators said that in order to gain vote bank, the government in centre is raising 35A issue.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in whole Budgam district. Almost all the shops remained closed and public transport was off the roads.

Further, Anjuman Sharie Shian president and senior leader, Aga Syed Hassan was placed under house arrest.
