SHOPIAN AUGUST 20: – In the view of the forth coming festival of Eid-ul-Azha Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Owais Ahmad constituted squads for conducting market checking at various locations in the district.

The checking was aimed to ensure the quality of eatables, price control and to keep a vigil on erring traders. During the inspection, the checking squad team realised a fine of Rs. 4200 on various shopkeepers violating the legal regulations and also urged upon the people to avoid the use of polythene so that pollution can be minimised.

The checking team also visited various places where sacrificial animals, poultry birds, fish have been kept for sale by dealers and directed them to charge the rate approved by the government and display the rate list.

During the special drive Rs. 6500 was realised as fine from 85 offenders. Besides some eatable items, vegetables were destroyed on spot. The team also seized a large quantity of polythene from shopkeepers and store owners.

The offenders include bakery and confectionary traders who put bakery products for sale without proper labelling.
