Kangan, August 20: Scores of livestock and some children, from the past few weeks, have become prey to the canines in Burunbugh village of Kangan.

Local residents said, “From past two weeks, at least 30 cattle were bitten by the dogs, who roam freely here, they have also attacked children.”

Shabir Ahmad, a local resident said, “Dog population has grown rapidly in our area and many of them are infected with rabies. Nobody cares about us .Authorities are in deep slumber.”

Locals said that during night hours dogs are being dropped in our village by some unknown persons. They bring these dogs from other places mostly from areas under municipalities.

“Anti-rabies vaccination is also not available at local animal husbandry department as we have been buying the vaccinations from private stores,” they added

Local residents of the village appealed district administration to look in to the matter.

They further said that the Government last year informed J&K assembly that 1119 dog bites were reported from different health centers in Ganderbal.
