JAMMU, AUGUST 18:  Secretary, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) and Relief and Rehabilitation, Farooq Ahmed Shah today reviewed the functioning of the said departments in a string of meetings here.

The Secretary also took stock of the progress made in various projects under these sectors.

The meetings were attended by Chief Engineer PHE Jammu, Ashok Gandotra, Chief Engineer I&FC Jammu, K K Magotra, SEs, Executive Engineers, senior functionaries of Relief and Rehabilitation and other concerned departments.

During the meetings, Farooq Ahmad Shah reviewed the practical and ground level implication of the schemes along with financial progress.

Shah stressed upon the concerned officers to conduct regular site visits to stay well versed with the ground level situation and impending issues of their departments. He instructed them to speed up the pace of work on all ongoing projects for their early completion.

The Secretary directed the PHE department for completion of work on Water Supply Schemes at the earliest to augment the water supply in Jammu province.

He said during this fiscal, the focus will be on installation of more hand pumps for wider coverage of small habitations.

A detailed discussion was also held on regularization of all drinking water supply connections, repair of defunct tube wells and many alike.

Chief Engineer, PHE, briefed the Secretary about the status of water supply in urban and rural sectors.

It was informed that a proposal at an estimated cost of Rs 520 crore has been submitted to ERA for installation of 68 tube-wells in most of the water stressed areas of urban sector of Jammu to overcome the shortfall of around 15 MGD water.

The meeting was further informed that several projects for the augmentation of water supply in rural areas have also been framed under NRDWP, NABARAD and LIC sectors.

A proposal to lift water from Chenab River was also discussed in the meeting.

Chief Engineer, I&FC, informed the chair about the status of ongoing schemes being funded under PMKSY and other centrally sponsored schemes under flood and river management. He also informed that the department has under taken the work for construction of diversion channel for Expansion of Airport.

While reviewing the functioning of Relief and Rehabilitation department, Shah directed the concerned officers to maintain cleanliness in the flats of the migrants and ensure the adequate supply of ration. He further asked them to put in a committed effort to resolve the issues of the migrants.

Farooq Ahmad Shah also visited Sitlee, Boria and Tawi filtration plants and directed the concerned officers to maintain cleanliness and hygiene to provide safe drinking water to the people.

Later, Shah inspected the ongoing work on Barrage in River Tawi and also visited irrigation canal which is a part of diversion channel for Expansion of Airport.
