Day long “Collaborative Session” on SLWM held at Jammu

JAMMU, AUGUST 18- Upholding the spirit of effective collaboration between the administrative system and the academia, the Directorate of Rural Sanitation, J&K organized a day-long “Collaborative Session”, in order to garner all information and expertise that rests within the state, especially in the universities, on the subject Solid & Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) as well as bio-composting/vermin-composting, focusing on implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen and GOBAR-DHAN scheme. The session took place at Panchayat Bhawan Jammu.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Rural Sanitation, J&K Indu Kanwal Chib highlighted different issues relating to the proper waste disposal and effective waste management system in the State. She hoped that such sessions shall build a culture of dialogue between administration & academia, to ensure deeper impact of governmental schemes like SBM-G of Rural Sanitation department as well as schemes of other departments.

She informed that the main objective of organizing this workshop is to supervise different programs undertaken by Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen and to thoroughly understand the problem of waste disposal along with relevant methods/technologies that can be used for the success of SBM-G in the State.

Subject-matter experts and Professors from various universities of Jammu division were invited along with officers from Rural Development Department and Jammu Municipal Corporation to take part in this brainstorming session.

Presentations were prepared by Dr. Raj Kumar Rampal, HOD Environmental Science from Jammu University, Dr. Anand Kumar & Dr.Balaganesan from IIT Jammu, Dr.Zafar Iqbal from Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Parvez Abdullah from Baba Ghulam-Shah Badshah University Rajauri along with participation of representatives from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University & GDC Kishtwar. The discussions revolved around the topic of vermi-composting, appropriate technology available for Solid Liquid Waste Management and identifying agencies working in this field on ground.

A similar session shall be organized for the academia and administration of Kashmir & Ladakh divisions.
