Death of man triggers protests in Rajouri
Rajouri, Aug 17: A man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Rajouri district following which his relatives staged a protest on the Jammu-Poonch highway to press for a probe into his death.
Scores of protesters assembled on Nowshera Train Bridge and blocked the highway for over three hours, witnesses said.
Pappu Choudhary, a resident of Jhanger village of the district, was working as an auto-driver in Jammu, and was found dead yesterday evening in Gandhi Nagar.
“Pappu has been murdered under a well-planned conspiracy by some influential men from Nowshera town,” alleged a family member.
The protesters claimed that the deceased, his brother and few others are whistle blowers in a multi-crore land scam in the district.
“The deceased and his brother had been getting death threats. The influential people murdered him to silence him and others,” alleged another family member.
Civil and police officials tried to pacify the protesters but they continued to protest for over three hours.
It was after the Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Sher Singh assured the family of a fair probe that the protest was called off.
