Rafiabad encounter; toll mounts to five

Srinagar, Aug 09: The body of a militant was recovered from an encounter site in the forests of Tafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today, taking the number of militants killed in the operation since yesterday to five, the Army said here.

The body of one more militant was recovered this morning from the encounter site in the Ladoora forests in the Rafiabad area, an Army official said.

He added that the number of militants killed in the operation so far had risen to five.

Four militants were killed in a gunbattle yesterday after government forces launched a search operation in the forest area on Monday, following information about the presence of militants there.

One soldier was also injured in the gunbattle.

Weapons and other war-like stores were claimed recovered from the encounter site. Army said the search operation is going on.

Police in a statement here said preliminary investigation has revealed that the killed militants were affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Their identity is being ascertained, police said, adding a case has been registered and investigation has been initiated.
