Bhadarwah, Aug 07: A low intensity explosion at a school in Shiva village of Doda district yesterday was caused by a crude explosive device planted to kill the principal, police said today.

“Although we are waiting for the final report of the FSL but the visiting team found some splinters and particles, which clearly indicate that the blast was caused by a crude explosive device and not due to explosion of inverter battery as believed earlier,” said SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir Khatana.

He said the device was planted under the principal’s chair and exploded due to pressure, according to the preliminary investigation of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

“The device was perhaps planted to kill the principal,” he said, adding: “SIT is on job and have questioned almost every villager but no arrest has been made so far.”

The school principal Hoshyar Singh was critically injured in the blast while a non-teaching staff member suffered burn injuries.
