JK Urdu Council elects new office-bearers

SRINAGAR, JULY 30: The members of JK Urdu Council have elected new office bearers for the Council.

Noted writer and columnist Dr Javid Iqbal has been unanimously elected as new President of the Council while Ajaz Ahmad Kakroo will be new Senior Vice President. Javed Matjee has been reelected as Secretary General and Prof. Hameed Naseem Rafiabadi and Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Ganaie will be Vice President of the council. Javid Kirmani and Sofi Ali Mohammad have also been reelected as Secretary Information and Secretary Finance respectively. Noted social activist Advocate A. R. Hanjura will continue to act as Legal Advisor cum Chief organizer of the council.

The elections to elect a new body for coming three years were held here in which majority of Council members participated. The outgoing president Jan Mohammad Azad has been elected as Chairman of Advisory council which includes Dr Rafiq Masoodi, GN Var, Showkat Ahmad Bhat and others as its members.

Shahbaz Hakbari, Peer Najmuddin, BA Shah, Abdul Shakoor and others were made district coordinators. Urdu Council is active for the protection and promotion of state’s official language Urdu in Jammu and Kashmir.
