“We visited all the ATM’S located in the town, some of them were closed, while as the ones that were open had unavailability of cash,” they added.

One of the residents of district Shopian Nazir Ahmad said, “I visited about 5 ATM machines located in the town but all of them were cashless.”

“We have a marriage ceremony at our home for which I was in dire need of cash but as all the ATM’s were cashless, I had no choice but to travel miles for withdrawing the cash,” he added.

Another resident Gulzar Ahmad Wagay told ‘Kashmir Images’ that he came from a nearby village to withdraw money but had to return empty-handed as no ATM was functioning in the Shopian town.

According to the locals,  not only the ATM’s  in the main market of Shopian are cashless from last 3 days, but the ATM located inside District Hospital Shopian is also facing the same problem due to which the patients are facing immense hardships.

When contacted Branch Head J&K Bank Shopian, Syed Muneer Ahmad, said, “Most of our ATM machines are dispensing the cash, while as the ones which don’t will be loaded with cash as soon as possible.”

“The ATM’s witnessed the shortage of cash due to strike in Shopian,” he added.
