Witnesses said that on June 25, a group of students and other local youths were protesting against the  civilian killings at the hands of government forces in different parts of Valley. “They had blocked the highway, and when a BSF cavalcade passed through the area, the protesting youth hurled stones on it and the BSF troopers fired some shots resulting in injuries to the Unaid,”  an eyewitness had said.

As the news about death of Ubaid reached his native place, thousands of people reached Nadihal from adjoining villages.

“Amid shrieks and wails, Ubaid was laid to rest at his native village amid pro-freedom slogans, and thousands of people participated in his funeral prayers,” said a local resident Ghulam Rasool.

Police say they have registered a case in this regard and investigation is going on.
