Kulgam, July 10: The road from Brinnal Lammar to Bonigam Chowgam in district Kulgam is in shambles and the locals aghast over the cold response by the concerned authorities who, they alleged, have been turning a blind eye to the plight of the people.

Claiming that the road had not been repaired, and no mecademization done, since past 10 years, the locals blamed that the authorities weren’t concerned for the inconvenience caused to the commuters here.

Locals claimed that while all roads in district Kulgam were macadamized, the 12 Km long Chowgam Kulgam to Brinnal Lammar road has been forgotten altogether by the concerned department and despite bringing the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times there has been no response.

“It has been almost 10 years since the road was macadamized last time and the condition of road is so bad that drivers refuse to ply on it,” , Mohd Yaqoob Naik, a local resident lamented.

The bad condition of the road turns worse during rains as it is inundated and difficult to drive over.  “During rainfall, the road becomes difficult to drive as the road is full potholes,” Nazir Ahmad Hajam, a local driver said adding that vehicles plying on this stretch of road are damaged due to its pathetic condition.

When contacted, the Executive Engineer, R&B Division, Qazigund, Basharat Ahmad, he said that Initially the road was under R&B Division Qazigund but the road now needs to be restored under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
