Protest against arrests creates traffic jam on airport road in Hyderpora

Srinagar, Jul 09: Traffic came to a grinding halt on the airport road after the family and relatives of four boys allegedly detained during a nocturnal raid staged a protest in Hyderpora area of Srinagar on Monday.

Witnesses said that scores of women staged a ‘dharna’ (sit-in) on the road near Jamia Masjid to demand the release of four boys detained following a grenade blast in the area on Saturday. A CRPF trooper and a civilian were injured in the blast.

Demanding release of the youth, the protesters alleged that police arrested youth were students of 10th class and had been arrested during nocturnal raids and later lodged at Humhama police station under unknown charges.

The protesters said that the boys were playing near a ground in Hyderpora when the blast took place. “These boys were picked up by the forces during a night raid on Saturday. They are so young. They have nothing to do with the blast,” protesting women said.

Local shopkeepers said the triggered massive traffic jam on the busy road that leads to Srinagar International airport.
