Urs of Shamas Faqir celebrated in Budgam

Shamasabad (Budgam), July 05: A large number of devotees celebrated the annual Urs of Shamas Faqir (RA), a revered Kashmiri Sufi saint, at Shamasabad in Khansahib area of Budgam district on Thursday.

Thousands of people from across the Valley assembled at Shamasabad, where the shrine of Shamas Faqir is located, and held special prayers. On the occasion, singers sung the poetry of late saint and paid glowing tributes to him.

A devotee from Narbal Budgam, Ghulam Nabi Hayat, whose father was a disciple of the revered saint told ‘Kashmir Images’ that Shamas Sahab’s main focus was to show people a complete way of life.

Shamas Faqir, whose real name was Mohammad Sidiq Bhat, was born in Srinagar in 1840 and died in 190. He is buried along with his six apprentices at Shamasabad shrine. The village Shamasabad is named after him.
