Bridge collapses in Kupwara

Srinagar, Jul 03: A 100-metre bridge built over six decades ago in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district collapsed following heavy rains last night.

The bridge built in 1950s over Hyhama river connects Kupwara town with Regipora area of the district.

An official said the bridge collapsed last night following intense rains in the area.

Deputy Commissioner Kupwara said the bridge was declared unsafe for traffic in 2008. “The bridge was used only by pedestrians. Luckily, the bridge collapsed during night when no one was using it,” he said.
