Rains Aftermath: DDC Ganderbal reviews flood preparedness

GANDERBAL, JUNE 30:   In view of the flood-alert sounded in Central Kashmir due to incessant rains, District Development Commissioner Ganderbal Dr. Piyush Singla directed all departments to remain fully prepared to tackle the prevalent situation in the district.

The DDC said this while reviewing the flood preparedness measures in Ganderbal and Baltal during a meeting at mini-secretariat here.

Addressing the meeting, the DDC directed Irrigation and Flood Control Department to ensure fix of all breaches in the river Sindh embankments and to store adequate flood fighting materials like de-watering pumps and soil bags near weak and vulnerable points.

During the meeting, DDC reviewed flood duty chart prepared by various departments. He directed the Food Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department to ensure pre-positioning of adequate food materials and other essential commodities in accessible flood-prone areas.

The health department was instructed to store adequate emergency medicines in all health care centres and all the medical and para-medical staff was directed not to leave the station without proper permission from the concerned authority.

PDD authorities were directed to repair the damaged transformers and to make standby transformers available to tackle any power crises.

Similarly, education department was asked to identify rescue holding places in case rescue operation are undertaken.

Similarly, the I&FC department was directed to divert the water coming from the Zojila Nallah by making flood channels and drains in the catchment area near Baltal base camp.

ACR Ganderbal Nisar Ahmad, SSP Ganderbal Fayaz Ahmad, SDM Kangan, HoDs from PDD, PHE, I&FC, Health, FCS&CA, Education, 24 RR and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
