Inclement Weather: DC Baramulla reviews flood preparedness

BARAMULLA, JUNE 30: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash, today convened a meeting to review the flood preparedness in view of the incessant rains in the district.

The meeting was attended by ADC Baramulla, Director Planning, SEs, Exens, AEEs and other officials from of Irrigation and Flood Control Department, R&B and other concerned.

On the occasion, the DC directed all the district and sectoral officers to remain stationed at the headquarters and also ensure the attendance of their subordinate staff. He called for close coordination between the departments and other agencies to safeguard the precious lives and property and to ensure timely rescue and rehabilitation.

He also directs the concerned to remain prepared to deal with any kind of eventuality that may arise due to inclement weather conditions.

It was informed that the department has a capacity of more than 1.37 sandbags and other vital material that has been kept ready whenever required.

The DC pressed for making a list of vulnerable flood-prone areas, location of related infrastructure viz dozers, sandbags, boats, vehicles, dewatering pumps besides telephone numbers of in-charge of related department and agencies. He directed to regularly update the gauge level and to keep men and machinery in the state of readiness.

Moreover, he urged the people living along the embankments of river Jhelum, Nallahs or in the low-lying areas to remain vigilant and to contact the administration in case of any eventuality.

Earlier, the DC inspected the flood control room and reviewed its functioning. He directed the concerned to establish such helplines at the sub-division level also.
