“In an unfortunate incident Col J V Mahadik (Corps of Artillery) posted at Station Headquarters, Khundroo, succumbed to the injuries suffered due to accidental discharge of fire from his personal weapon while travelling in a vehicle,” the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, a policeman was injured after his colleague fired at him after a heated argument at Police station Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.

The incident triggered panic among the people, who took it for a militant attack.

Reports said the personal security officer of SHO Bijbehara fired multiple rounds after heated argument with his colleague.

An official said that a policeman, identified as Sikander, sustained injury in his foot.

He has been hospitalised, said the official.
