Thousands attend funerals of slain militants

Srinagar, Jun 23: Four militants who were killed in an encounter with government forces in Sirigufwara area of Anantnag district of Friday were laid to rest in their native places with thousands of people attending their funeral prayers.

Maajid Manzoor Dar, one of the slain militants was laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans after six rounds of funeral prayers at his native Talangam village in Pulwama district on Saturday morning.

Dar, who owed allegiance to Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir militant group, was killed along with three associates, including the outfit chief Dawood Salafi of HMT Srinagar, in a gunfight with forces in Srigufwara area of Anantnag district on Friday.

Thousands of people also participated in the funeral of Dawood Salafi and other two slain militants.

Since Friday evening, thousands of mourners from adjoining areas and far-off places had been streaming into the native places of the slain militants to participate in their last rites.
