Chief Justice inaugurates legal awareness camp at Kargil

KARGIL, JUNE 22: Chief Justice J&K High Court, Justice Alok Aradhe in presence of Chief Justice Guwahati High Court,JusticeAjit Singh inaugurated a Mega Legal Awareness Camp at Hussaini Park here today.

The day-long camp was organized by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kargil under the overall supervision of the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) J&K High Court.

The camp was organized with the objective to make general masses aware of their entitlements under the law, to apprise them about the availability of free legal services and to connect them to different welfare schemes and programmes.

The Chief Justices was accompanied by the senior functionaries of the State Legal Authority, Principal District and Session Judge Kargil Sanjiv Kumar Bhagat, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Vikas Kundal and officers of the District Administration.

During the camp, more than 25 informative stalls were put up by government departments and organizations displaying schemes and programmes for the benefit of the people.

Around 2000 people from different parts of the district assembled at Hussaini Park who were provided first-hand information about various legal services as well as Central and State sponsored schemes including ICDS (LaadliBeti), Ujjwala Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, PMAY, PMSBY, Jan Dhan Yojana, SSA, RMSA, PMEGP, PMKS, MGNREGA, NRLM, RKVY, NULM, PMEGP, ISSS, ICPS, KCC, JSY, MGNREGA, Pre-Matric Scholarship, Save the Girl Child, Handloom and Handicraft Schemes etc.

The Chief Justices also distributed job cards and agriculture implements to beneficiaries under Rural Development and Agriculture schemes, crutches and orthopaedic shoes by REWA an NGO besides clothing materials and religious literature by Islamia School Kargil (ISK) and Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) Kargil among specially-abled children and other identified beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice J&K High Court along with Chief Justice Gauhati High Court also inspected the stalls installed by various departments and enquired about the criteria and facilities being provided to the beneficiaries. Different departments including Social Welfare, Agriculture, Horticulture, Handicraft and Handloom, ICDS, Tourism Department, Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency (KREDA), Industries Department, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Labor Department, Education, Municipality had displayed their schemes and programmes for the welfare of the people.

Moreover, stalls were also put up District Legal Services Authority, nationalized banks, Amchi and Tibetan medicine, Women’s Wings of Islamia School Kargil (ISK) and Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) Kargil different NGOs through which useful information was disseminated to the public. Medical, Blood Donation and General Medical Check Up camps were also set up to provide free consultancy and health check-up facilities.

The NALSA theme song was also played along with audio-visual clips about the development of the legal service institutions in the Post- Independence period and the provision of various legal services available to citizens.

Pertinently, the legal awareness camp was the first of its kind initiative undertaken in the district for creating legal consciousness and awareness.

Meanwhile, the local population has appreciated the efforts of DLSA Kargil for having organized the mega legal awareness camp in the district.
