‘Run for Peace and Cycling for Unity,’ organized in Baramulla

Baramulla: With an aim to inculcate sports enthusiasm among youth ahead of ‘Baramulla Youth Festival’ likely to kick start from 24 June 2018, a ‘Run for Peace and Cycling for Unity” was organized on Wednesday by the Dagger Artillery Brigade under the aegis of the Dagger Division in Baramulla.

The event was aimed at mobilizing the youth of the region and to channelize their energies constructively for peace building.

The sports run for peace and cycling was flagged off by Officer Commanding (GOC) Dagger Division Major General Gulab Singh Rawat, General which witnessed a turnout of over 300 youth from various parts of Baramulla. Other dignitaries to grace the occasion included Commander Dagger Artillery Brigade and Himalayan Brigade, DIG BSF, DIG Police, SSP Baramulla, CMO Baramulla and various prominent citizens of the region.

The winners were selected and will be felicitated on 24 June, 2018 during the prize distribution ceremony at Baramulla Youth Festival.

“The zeal and enthusiasm which the locals exhibited to participate in the event proved that the people are eager to join the mainstream and progress on the path of peace and prosperity,” said GoC G A Rawat.

He added that such events are the efforts by the Indian Army to amalgamate the people of the valley in the nation building process and connect the Awam with the Jawan. It not only helps in confidence building but provides a much required platform to the locals to showcase their talent. “The locals eagerly await such events and hope that more such competitions will be organized in future for the populace.”

The GOC Dagger Division interacted with the prominent citizens over a cup of tea and exhorted them to work in tandem with the army for a peaceful and prosperous Kashmir.
