Kashmiri girl wins gold medal in kick-boxing

Srinagar: A nine year old girl Zainub Mushtaq from kilwara Hariwatnoo village of Tangmarg Baramulla won a gold medal in national kick-boxing event held in Himachal Pradesh. Zainub who belongs to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family is keen to excel in the field internationally. She says that her father Mushtaq Magray, who is a heli-skier, is her inspiration.

Zainub has participated in several state and national level events and has won 3 national and 2 district level competitions. In January, 2018 she participated in a national event of kick-boxing which was held in Delhi from 16 January to 20 January. The event was organized by WAKO, India kick-boxing federation of India, where she secured first position.

Subsequently, Zainub was selected for international kick-boxing championship scheduled to be held in Italy in the month of September, 2018. According to Mushtaq Magray, her daughter is preparing for the event under a women coach.

From the very tender age Zainub had an inclination towards the sports and her father Mushtaq being a sportsman himself knew it well as how to nourish the talent of his daughter. “Zainub has made me feel proud and I will try my level best to drive her talent in the right direction,” says Mushtaq.

“I aspire to win a gold medal for my country and my dream is to participate in world Olympics,” says Zainub.

Pertinently, the National Kick-boxing championship 2018 was held in Shoolini University Solan Himachal Pradesh from 10 to 13 June in another girl namely Mavia Khan bagged silver medal for Kashmir.
