Srinagar: Reacting to Government of India’s (GoI) decision of calling off ceasefire, Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) has said that the ‘ceasefire was a drama and an effort by Indian forces to achieve covert targets.’
In a statement issued yesterday, Mahmood Shah, Chief LeT, in his response to the India’s announcement of abolishment of cease-fire, said that the unmatched sacrifices of Hurriyat leadership and public have rendered the vicious motives of India into failures. The funeral prayer of martyrs and Eid prayer were offered together.
“This is a response to India’s cease-fire drama. We are thankful to public for their support to our call,” Shah said.
Mahmood Shah said ‘we have been exposing the India’s cease-fire drama since the beginning, which in reality was an effort by Indian forces to achieve covert targets. If India was reasonable and honest in the cease-fire, then it would have implemented Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs).’
He said that after the release of UN’s report on Kashmir, Shujaat Bukhari, a renowned journalist, was martyred.
Meanwhile, officials of Ministry of Home Affairs said that ceasefire was aimed at giving relief to the public during the holy month.
“Public responded positively as was visible in the sharp decline in stone pelting incidents,” the officials said.
They said: “This was, however, anathema to the Pakistani terror masters. Consistently and persistently during the entire period, Pakistan backed terrorists continued to push up the violence by targeting innocent civilians and SFs duty-bound by their commitment to cessation of operations.”
They said that despite maintaining exemplary patience, limits of civility were crossed when an officer on leave for Eid going to his family was not allowed to reach them and killed in cold blood.
“Pakistan also decided to silence a moderate voice advocating peace by killing a reputed journalist, again before Eid,” they said.
“To provide effective protection to general public and to ensure a level playing field to the SFs facing targeted attacks, the restraint has to be lifted. Probably, the language of peace is not understood by them, who have descended to the depths of inhuman behavior,” added the officials.
The officials thanked the general public for ‘their resilience’, adding, “The government stands by them and is committed to protecting them from the evil machinations from across.”
