SRINAGAR, JUNE 14: Minister for Public Works and Culture, Naeem Akhtar, today visited the SPS Library in Srinagar to review the process of shifting books from district libraries of Kashmir to the state-of-the-art library in the capital city.

The Minister took stock of the preparations being made by the Department of Libraries and Research for shifting the stock of books lying in various district libraries of Kashmir to the central library which is expected to be thrown open to public after Eid-ul-Fitr.

Akhtar urged the officers of the Department of Libraries and Research to ensure that the shifting process is completed soon and the existing stockpile of books is enriched with latest additions from the world of literature to make the SPS Library a world-class institution and an incubation centre for scholars and researchers.

During the visit, the Minister also called for reviving the culture of book reading and reading rooms to enrich the intellectual capital of the state. Director of Libraries, Masarat-ul-Islam and other senior officers of the Department accompanied the minister during his visit to the library.
