Shawwal moon not sighted, Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday

Srinagar: Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday as the Shawwal moon has not been sighted.

On Thursday evening, Pakistan’s central Ruet-i-Hilal Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman announced that Shawwal moon was not sighted and that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated on Saturday.

Shawwal moon was also not sighted in any part of India.

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, marking the culmination of month-long Ramadhan.

Shawwal is the 10th month of the lunar Islamic calendar.
