Geelani concerned over ‘prisoners’ plight’
Srinagar, June 10: Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani today expressed deep concern and anguish over the plight of detainees languishing in different jails in and outside valley.
Geelani in a statement said, “The information received from jails regarding the plight of detainees is disturbing and horrifying. The political prisoners are ill-treated, confined to solitary cells and humiliated by criminals lodged in these jails. They are denied medical treatment and basic needs.”
He alleged that the prisoners are not even allowed to offer the religious obligation.
Syed Ali Geelani appealed to the affluent families to take care of families of detainees, martyrs and underprivileged.
