Srinagar,  Jun 06: The Army on Wednesday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC)  in Macchil sector of north Kashmir, killing three militants.

“Troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in Macchil sector in Kupwara district and challenged the infiltrators,” an Army official said.

Three militants were killed in the ensuing gunfight, he said, adding  search operations were on in the area.

Meanwhile, thousands of people on Wednesday participated in the last rites of two militants who, according to army, were killed in a gunfight near the Line of Control in Tanghdar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on May 26.

Reports said a spontaneous shutdown was observed in Pulwama and Kulgam districts to mourn the deaths of Mudasir Ahmad Bhat of Parigam, Kulgam, and Sheraz Ahmad Sheikh of Lajoora, Pulwama.

After exhumation, their bodies were handed to their families yesterday, more than 10 days after they were buried near the Line of Control (LoC) at Badwan village in Tanghdar.

The families of the two had submitted applications for the exhumation after seeing their pictures on social media websites and later at Tanghdar police station.

Soon after their bodies reached Parigam and Lajoora, thousands of people from the nearby areas reached there and participated in their funeral prayers.

According to GNS anew agency, several rounds of funeral prayers were offered for both the slain militants before they were laid to rest amid pro-freedom and anti-government slogans.
