Srinagar: Militants hurled grenades at an Army camp adjacent to the Hajjan police station in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district tonight, police said.

The militants lobbed the grenades using underbarrel grenade launchers at the camp of the 30 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army around 8.30 PM, they said.

The grenades at the camp were hurled from two sides.

The fire was retaliated “heavily and effectively”, a senior police officer said, adding that it was not a suicide attack.

Earlier reports had suggested that it was a fidayeen attack and militants had entered the camp.

The area has been cordoned off and combing operations have been started, the officer said.

Meanwhile, an army vehicle was damaged in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Yemberzalwai in outskirts of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.

“Whole area has been cordoned off and searches have been launched to nab the assailants,” the officer said.

He said that it was the low-intensity IED.
