Ecology Deptt organizes ‘Green March’

SRINAGAR, JUNE 04: As a precursor to the World Environment Day on June 05, the Department of Ecology Environment & Remote Sensing today organized Green March from Zabarwan Park to Oberoi crossing here.

The march was flagged off by Principal Chief Conservator Forests, M M Pant.

Director Ecology Environment & Remote Sensing O.P Sharma, Chief Conservator Forests Kashmir F.A Jeelani, besides several other officers from Forest, Ecology and Environment departments were present on the occasion.

The Green March was organized with the purpose to sensitize general public especially the student community to protect the state’s fragile environment.

On the occasion, speakers highlighted the importance of celebrating the event to raise awareness among the masses regarding the need for minimizing the use of plastic in the day to day life.

Chairman NPWWF and NGO, Nazir Benazir administered a pledge to the students carrying the message to come together and combat plastic pollution to preserve state’s ecology and environment.

Besides leading NGO’s A2B2 care foundation, nearly 25 schools from district Budgam, Pulwama and Srinagar including Kashmir Public School, Harwan participated in the awareness campaign.
