Massive fire broke out in power receiving station Boniyar

Baramulla, Jun 03: Massive fire that broke out in a receiving station of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) at Boniyar Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday destroyed some important power infrastructure there.

Sources said that fire broke out inside the NHPC receiving station and later engulfed adjoining huts. Locals living in the area, and a fire tenders from Baramulla reached the spot and tried to douse the flames.

Locals said couple of transformers were damaged in the fire which has lead to electricity breakdown in the area.

Station House Officer, Police Station Boniyar  Iqbal Ahmad confirmed the incident  and said that fire tenders were immediately pressed to douse the fire. He said the cause of the fire was not known immediately.

“A case has been registered into the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire,” the officer said.

Meanwhile electricity in more than  25 villages of Boniyar Tehsil has got affected  due to incident.
