Srinagar, Jun 02: A special police officer (SPO) who was injured critically after being fired upon by militants at Puchal area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district last week, succumbed to injuries on Saturday evening.

SPO, Aqib Wagay, son of Abdul Ahad Wagay, was attacked by militants at Puchal village on last Tuesday evening (May 29). He was shot at in both legs by the militants.

Wagay, a resident of Panzagam Awantipora, had suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to Army’s 92 Base Hospital at Badamibagh Srinagar wherefrom he was later referred to SKIMS Soura.

After battling for life for four days, SPO succumbed in SKIMS Soura this evening.

SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary confirmed the death of SPO.

Pertinently, a video showing militants interrogating Wagay before he was shot at, had gone viral on social media.

The video shows that he was being questioned by militants for allegedly being involved in supply of liquor to villages from the Army camp.
