Srinagar, Jun 01: A teacher was placed under suspension on Friday for beating a minor student at a government school in Mamar village of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Chief Education Officer (CEO) Ganderbal Sheikh Gayas-ud-din, who visited the school today, said the accused teacher has been placed under suspension.

“It seems that the girl student has been ruthlessly beaten by the teacher. I have ordered his suspension,” the CEO was quoted as saying by a news agency.

The action came after the parents of the nine-year-old girl and locals locked up the school today morning to protest the beating. The protesters also blocked Srinagar-Leh highway, disrupting traffic movement for some time.
