Javaid Mustafa pitches for vibrant disaster mitigation plan

SRINAGAR, JUNE 01: Minister for Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Javaid Mustafa Mir, today pitched for vibrant disaster mitigation plan keeping in view with the State’s position on the seismic zone.

He said National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) should give a special and focused attention in this regard and formulate a comprehensive disaster mitigation policy to meet any eventuality.

The Minister made these remarks during an interaction with the member of NDMA, Lt. Gen NC Marwah, who called on him here today.

The Minister apprised the NDMA member in detail about the measures taken by the state government in the aftermath of September 2014 floods. He called for more intervention of the NDRF during any eventuality in the state.

The Minister also advocated for bringing the victims of border shelling under the ambit of SDRF so that their effective rescue and rehabilitation is carried out in a well-planned manner and on time.

Assuring every possible help during natural calamities, the Lt. Gen said that J&K has done a commendable job in respect of disaster preparedness during the last three years by way of various measures taken to further strengthen the department in the state. He also hailed the department for training volunteers to tackle the emergency situations during eventualities.

He stressed for organizing maximum mass awareness programmes through media and conducting awareness camps in vulnerable areas.

In response to the demand by the Minister for setting up of more Doppler in the state for forecasting weather reports, the Member said that three new Doppler will be installed in the state.
