Srinagar, May 31: A ‘Maulvi’ has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a minor student at a religious seminary in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, police said today.

In a video clip widely circulated on social media, an  8-year-old boy can be seen hung upside down and ruthlessly beaten by a ‘Maulvi’ (religious teacher) of a local ‘Darsgah’ (seminary), a police spokesman said here.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of RPC and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2013.

The accused teacher identified as Maulvi Mushtaq Ahmed Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar, resident of Batpora Tangmarg, presently residing at Iqbal Colony Baramulla, the spokesman said.

He said further investigation into the matter was on.
