On this day in 2009, bodies of Aasiya and her sister in law Nelofar were found in a nallah with locals alleging that the duo was raped and murdered by government forces.

Shakeel Ahanger husband of Nelofar and brother of Aasiya said that they will fight till their last breath to demand justice.

Shakeel said, “For us the horrible incident is still fresh in our minds and hearts. The failure of government to do justice is a dark blot on the Indian democratic status.

“The government was successful in reshaping the whole incident into an accidental death, while as everyone is well aware about what happened with Aasiya and Nelofar,”

The father-in-law of Shakeel Ahanger, Sayeed Abdul Hai said, “We knocked every door of the government to seek justice but justice continues to elude us.”
